Vintage Original Gerzit Gerz West Germany Hunting Scene Lidded Beer Stein
$40.00
Vintage German lidded beer stein by Gerz, identified by the impressed “Original Gerzit,” “West Germany,” and “Handarbeit” markings on the underside. The raised, multicolor woodland scene features a hunter with dog, stag, fox, trees, and landscape details against a deep cobalt-blue background.
The glazed ceramic or stoneware body is fitted with an ornate hinged silver-tone metal lid and thumb lift. Gerz was a major Westerwald ceramics producer founded by Simon Peter Gerz in the 19th century and became especially prominent after World War II. The West Germany marking places this example before German reunification in 1990, but the photos do not support a narrower production date.
Visible wear includes tarnish and oxidation to the lid, residue or discoloration around the unglazed base, and normal age-related surface wear. No obvious major chips or cracks are visible in the supplied photos, but the stein has not been personally inspected for hairlines, repairs, or leakage.
